Thank you very much to those clients who emailed following Pellitory's victory in the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday - plenty of you were on at fancy prices. Advised at 40/1, the four year old was given an excellent ride by Danny Tudhope who was winning the six furlongs event for a second time. I am delighted for his owner Evan Sutherland who is unable to go racing as much as he used to - Evan won the race in 2013 courtesy of Highland Colori under an eighteen year old Oisin Murphy. Bought for 52,000gns in the Autumn last year, David O'Meara's gelding had been campaigned exclusively over seven furlongs this year but was very much at home dropping back in distance here. Drawn in stall 16, Tudhope elected to tag on to the back of the group on the far side and it proved the correct manoeuvre. Travelling strongly throughout, he moved up smoothly on the outside before being unleashed approaching the furlong marker. Kept up to his work to score by half a length, it was his trainer's third victory in the prestigious event. It was a tremendous result all round and will help pay for a couple of new tyres.
Thankfully, racing went ahead. I was working at Ayr on Friday and Saturday and, having left my hotel just before 10am, the heavens opened. It was torrential rain until around 10.45 - the car park outside Western House was flooded in places, likewise one area of the paddock and apparently one of the bars in the grandstand. There was doom and gloom about the prospects of the meeting going ahead between 11 and noon. However, following two inspectons, racing was given the green light and the rest, as they say, is history......
Just a reminder that One Jump Ahead is currently at the printers and once I received a definite publishing date, I will let clients know on here. In the meantime, if you have ordered, or the Updates, please go to the Publications section of the site.
The Autumn Update will be emailed to clients on Thursday (24th September) - the Update can also be ordered via the Publications section of the site.
Time to turn my attention to the Autumn double. Enjoy the weekend and, whilst polishing off your Sunday lunch, raise a glass to messrs Sutherland, O'Meara and Tudhope in true Scottish fashion.
