Thank you very much to those clients who have emailed re the Royal Ascot Update, it is much appreciated. The final day on Saturday provided the ups and downs of horse racing with Double Rush (advised @ 7/1) and Lost Boys (2/1) both winning, while Satono Reve (advised @ 6/1) was beaten on the nod in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes going down by a nose and Goliath (7/2) held every chance when Christophe Soumillon's foot came out of the iron. There is a fine line between a good day and an excellent one. I was particularly satisfied by Double Rush's win in the Wokingham Stakes. The four year old joined Andrew Balding during the winter off a mark of 90 and was successful at the weekend off 105. While it got tight late on, Shane Foley's mount always looked in control and he is set to contest the Group 1 July Cup (11th July) next month.
Lost Boy is a fast improving colt, too, and the son of Night of Thunder also made it three out of three this year in the Golden Gates Stakes. Trained by David Menuisier, he defied a seven pounds rise for his win in the London Gold Cup to get the better of the Ballydoyle runner Amadeus Mozart by half a length. Bought by Wathnan Racing prior to the meeting, he is another who looks ready for a tilt at Pattern company. James McDonald gave him a terrific ride - the New Zealander rode 3 winners from 17 rides.
In total, the Update had 7 winners - Limestone (100/30), Alobayyah (advised @ 6/1), Scandinavia (advised @ 6/4), Venetian Sun (7/4), Opportunity (6/1), Double Rush (advised @ 7/1) and Lost Boys (2/1), plus Rayevka (2nd @ 7/1), Paddy The Squire (3rd @ 22/1) and Soldier's Tree (advised @ 25/1 - 3rd).
There were two winners in the Top 40 Prospects, namely and Double Rush and Earth Shot (4/1), while Symbol of Majesty (18/1) and Warrant Holder both finished runner-up. I should have stayed loyal to Almeraq who featured in last year's Top 40. He gained a Group 1 win in the Jubilee Stakes on Saturday at 25/1.
Finally, some other statistics from the five day meeting: In terms of trainers - Aidan O'Brien (7 winners from 31 runners), Joseph O'Brien (5 winners from 32 runners), William Haggas (4 winners from 20 runners), George Boughey (3 winners from 13 runners), Andrew Balding (3 winners from 29 runners), John & Thady Gosden (1 winner from 28 runners), Karl Burke (1 winner from 21 runners) and Charlie Appleby (0 winners from 12 runners). In addition, Wathnan Racing had 4 winners from 45 runners but 0 from 9 with their two year olds.
