It is fair to say the action on the track during the last few days hasn't set the pulse racing. It has therefore been a good opportunity to continue to work on the new edition of One Jump Ahead. On Wednesday afternoon, I spoke to rising star Harry Derham who kindly ran through over 50 horses in his ever increasing string. Former assistant to his uncle Paul Nicholls, Harry has sent out 44, 57 and 53 winners during the last three seasons and he trained his first Grade 1 winner last spring when Le Frimeur won the staying novices' hurdle at the Punchestown. Blessed with a terrific team of youngsters, he has added to his squad with a number of recruits from the Irish pointing field during the spring / summer. Harry also passed on news on a select bunch of unraced bumper horses to keep an eye out for this winter - there are some tremendous long-term prospects amongst those.
I am working at York on Friday evening and will then be conducting more interviews for OJA throughout next week. Irish expert Declan Phelan has also been in touch and he is just adding the final touches to his Irish Pointers article, which is one of the most popular features in OJA. These are exciting times.
