The meeting at Naas on Sunday was cut short due to the track being unfit following torrential rain with the Listed novice chase and Grade 3 Newlands Chase both lost. Earlier on the card, Jacob's Ladder (5/1) won the Grade 3 novice hurdle by three and a quarter lengths, while Will The Wise (11/4) battled on gamely to win the Pertemps qualifer over three miles and booked his place for the Final at the Cheltenham Festival. The six year old had run against some smart novices earlier in the campaign, including The Yellow Clay and Final Demand before winning a maiden hurdle at Punchestown in January. Making his handicap debut off a mark of 123, he stayed on well after the last to prevail by two and a half lengths. Regardless of how he performs at the Festival, the Well Chosen gelding will make a fine novice chaser next term and the type to win a big staying handicap one day. Both horses featured in Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers section in One Jump Ahead.
The Cheltenham Festival gets underway two weeks on Tuesday (11th March) - if you haven't ordered your copy of the One Jump Ahead Cheltenham Festival Update, please head to the Publications section of the site.
