Bromley's Best Buys has provided regular readers of One Jump Ahead with a plethora of winners over the years. Leading bloodstock agent Anthony Bromley has been writing an article in the National Hunt book for over 20 years and I was therefore delighted to include his first piece in Ahead On The Flat this year. The section was on the mark at Windsor on Monday with the Simon Munir and Isaac Souede owned Relief Rally (6/1) winning on his racecourse debut in a five furlongs fillies' novice stakes. Purchased for 58,000gns, the daughter of Kodiac is a half-sister to a Group 3 winner and she showed speed throughout. Responding to Tom Marquand's urgings inside the final furlong and a half, she won going away by a couple of lengths. She was William Haggas' first juvenile winner of 2023 and it will be a surprise if Relief Rally can't make an impact at a higher level.
Three of Ralph Beckett's last four runners have entered the winners' enclosure and the Hampshire trainer was also on the mark at the Thames track. Understated (5/2) had shaped promisingly on her debut at Kempton in January and following a break of 103 days, the daughter of Nathaniel was back in action in the ten furlongs. Making virtually all, she ran on stoutly to beat Shadow Dance by a length and a quarter. The stable are set to unleash a host of talent amongst the three year old ranks in the coming weeks and it is a yard to very much keep on the right side of.
All orders received for Ahead On The Flat by noon on Monday have been posted out. We have less than 30 copies in stock and there are no plans to have a reprint. However, PDF versions will be available to purchase via the Publications section of the site.
