The French Revolution section in One Jump Ahead has unearthed some promising types in recent weeks and Blue Lord (3/1) is the latest one. A Flat winner over two miles in his native country over a year ago, the gelded son of Blue Bresil had been off the track for 436 days prior to making his hurdling debut at Punchestown on Tuesday. Owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, the five year old jumped well and showed a good turn of foot to win the two miles maiden hurdle on his first run for Willie Mullins. Paul Townend's mount produced a bold jump at the last before staying on stoutly to beat Julie's Stowaway by half a length with over six lengths back to the third. Given the fact the runner-up had finished seventh in the Cheltenham Festival bumper, plus he had run over hurdles at Galway recently and therefore had a fitness advantage, it was a fair performance by the winner and it was no surprise to hear that Ireland's champion jockey was impressed. Don't be surprised if Blue Lord is given some smart entries sooner rather than later. The owner's racing manager Anthony Bromley was delighted with the winner's effort and there is plenty to look forward to with him.
The French Revolution section has produced seven individual winners, namely Blue Lord, Ganapathi, Hell Red, Indiana Jones, Monmiral, Nassalam and Quilixios. That is what One Jump Ahead has always been about - producing horses for the future, many of which very few British/Irish jumping fans knew much about before they arrived over here.
