Switching codes, Montregard (13/2) was featured in the Handicap Hits section of One Jump Ahead and the lightly raced gelding scored at the second time of asking at Wetherby on Thursday. Tom Lacey's five year old hadn't been seen since disappointing at Newcastle a couple of days before Christmas. Given a break of 96 and fitted with cheekpieces, he overcame a mistake at the last before staying on strongly to win the two miles five handicap hurdle at the A1 track by a length off a mark of 104. It was the gelded son of Joshua Tree fourth career start and hopefully he has more to offer, especially over fences eventually. Owned by J.P.McManus, he is a half-brother to Betfair Chase and Ryanair Chase winner Protektorat and is bred to stay further.
