Only The Bold provided Value Racing Club with more big race success when gaining a thrilling success in the £39,022 Summer Cup Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter on Sunday. The ten year old, who was having only his third start for Jamie Snowden, had finished strongly at Aintree on his previous start and the extra furlong here proved to his liking. Given a terrific ride by Gavin Sheehan, the Jeremy gelding responded to pressure throughout the final mile before staying on dourly after the last. A neck winner, the former Evan Williams trained runner was bought for £30,000 in May 2022 and has won 3 of his 10 races for the syndicate. Well done to racing manager James Couldwell and everyone involved. Their big race win is thoroughly deserved.
As discussed, I have been working for Racing UK over the last few days hence I am still catching up with replays / interviews etc. One horse who impressed me on my travels was Danger Bay at Hamilton on Thursday evening. Featured in the Maidens In Waiting section in AOTF, Ed Bethell's colt had run well on his reappearance at Carlisle last month behind two talented rivals. Contesting a nine furlongs maiden at the Scottish venue, he was always going well in behind the leaders before striking for home inside the final quarter of a mile. Pushed clear to score by two and three quarters of a length, he is a useful prospect capable of winning a decent hanidcap this summer. Longer-term, the son of New Bay will make a smashing four year old.
