The Top 40 Prospects in One Jump Ahead continue to perform poorly with Sine Nomine producing a lacklustre effort at Stratford on Saturday. The former Cheltenham Festival winner hasn't been helped by the weather this winter and the drying ground was against her here but it was still a disappointing effort under former champion jockey Brian Hughes. Entered in the Scottish National at Ayr next month, it is hard to see her taking up that engagement. Perhaps she will revert back to hunter chases next term.
Those clients who purchased the Cheltenham Festival Update will be aware of a couple of David O'Meara trained horses which I highlighted to watch out during the opening weeks of the season. While neither rewarded us financially, I would suggest keeping an eye on both Obito and Stressfree. The former was weak in the market ahead of his debut at Newcastle on Saturday evening and was ridden with the future in mind. Drawn wide in stall two, Danny Tudhope dropped him in behind runners before making ground in the latter stages. He will be an interesting handicap project later in the campaign. Stressfree enjoys ease in the ground and he made good headway in the ten furlongs handicap at Doncaster on Sunday. The five year old remains competitively handicapped.
I am continuing to work on the Aintree Grand National Update, which will be emailed to clients on Tuesday pm. Please head to the Publications section of the site to order a copy, plus Ahead On The Flat and the Updates, if you haven't already done so.
